The Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul is considered one of the most important and famous mosques in the world.
It is also known as the “Blue Mosque” because its interior walls are decorated with blue Iznik tiles.
The Blue Mosque was built during the reign of Sultan Ahmed I in the years 1609-1616 under the supervision
of engineer Muhammad Agha, one of the students of the famous architect “Sinan”.
The mosque is characterized by the traces of the fingerprints of Byzantine and Ottoman architecture,
and its location overlooking the Sea of Marmara and its opposite to the Hagia Sophia Museum.
The mosque has a wide courtyard, a height of 43 meters, and contains more than 200 windows.
